VII. Plant Energy Requirements
Total electrical requirements will be 750 connected horsepower. A 200 Kt+
auxiliary power source will b2 used as a standby unit to run essential pu~r,ps anc.
compressors. The present substation is capable of supplying the expected load.
Power requirements of the dredge and transfer system Trill be 87 horsepower.
The existing Plo. 4 aluminum conductor to the old pond is inadequate arrd a ne~~r
po~;rer source is required.
~. Fuel oil requirements are estimated at 800 gallons per day and the present
fuel tanks will be used for supply purposes.
VIII. Reclamation
Present tailings pond reserves will last apprnr.inately 5 years at 1•;hich
time the pond will be empty. Once reserves are depleted, the pond gill be re-
filled with tailings and the surface reclaimed.
IX. Economic Analysis
Homestake Mininy Company is currently the largest taxpayer in :'•liner?1 CD~nty
and is the largest single employer in the San Luis Valley. The total payroll for-
1975 was 31,551,226, which 1•ras earned by approximately 116 employees. Over 30
percent of these employees reside in I.1in?ral County, 411th the reiaainder in Rio
Grande County. The livelihood of these emplo/ees and many of the merchants who
transact business ~•rith the company and its er~••:~lnvees is dependent anon the
continuous efficient operation of the Bulldnq 'Mountain 1;ine. The proposed plant
is necessary to enahle the min° to remain co:n;~etitiv~ ;:i*_h oiler produ;:ers in
the U. S. and foreign countries.
