This resulting water surface will be junior to
the river and, if not augmented, will consume approximately two acre-feet of
water per year out of priority. This will directly affect the Union Ditch,
which is a member of the Consolidated Ditches Company of District No. 2, and
will indirectly affect all other ditches represented by the Consolidated Ditches
Company of District No. 2 in that the call on the river below the confluence of
the Cache La Poudre River and the South Platte River will be amplified. The
amplification of the call on the river will be due to the fact that approximately
330 acre-feet of water will not be available to downstream appropriators. The
water that will be evaporated from the proposed open water surface has historically
been used by downstream water users either through their direct flow decrees or
through their storage decrees.
In summary, the water users of the Consolidated.Ditches Company of District No. 2
do not recommend approval of this application unless the applicant furnishes
an augmentation plan which compensates the river for evaporative losses of his
proposed open water surface.
If we can be of any further service to you, or in any way clarify our position
in this matter, please feel free to contact me, or Robert Brand, Engineering
Consultant, Rocky Mountain Consultants, Inc., Longmont, phone 665-6283.
Very truly yours,
THE CONSOLIDATED DITCHES COMPANY
O~ISTRICT~
IRV//a,'I(y/~'Sarchet, President
enc
vls
