The lease that they are
operating on consists of 320 acres; however, probably an area of 8U to
100 acres is all that will ever be mined. The estimated life of the mine
is projected to be for twenty more years. It is located on the Sonth
fit. Drain River; however, there is no encroachment on the river itself
and since the rock is all mined in a dry state, there are no problems
with effluents or other drainage wastes to contaminate the stream.
the operation consists of blasting from the face of an almost perpendicular
bluff, then hauling it to the railroad in Lyons or by truck to various
sites.
The steep slopes have scattered cover of mountain mahogany and skunkbush
and an o.:casional clump of grass. Some deer are known to inhabit the
area; but the slope is extremely steep and generally northerly slope, so
nut too much use is made of the browse species by deer. Otherwise there
i~ insignificant use of wildlife.
h'h~rt little topsoil there is had been stockpiled and will he replaced ;it
the en~l of the operation and reseeded to SCS specifications.
'There ;rrc no known threatened or endangered species in the area.
hlt: rp
•
