<br /> <br />- 3 - <br />SCOPE <br />This report presents the ca~~ined results cf an initial site <br />study and supplemental investigations for the proposed five earthfilled <br />embanlments to be constructed at the Hzyden Gulch Coal trine, Poutt <br />County, Colorado. The initial site study, re;?ort•:d under our Job <br />t•b. 15,667 dated February 28, 1973, was perfon^.ed at the acproxi^~ate <br />pond locations to obtain preliminary embanl~ent design information. <br />This report presents reoamnendations for final cnban;c^ient and founda- <br />tion design considering the proposed e^+banlment locations and <br />configurations and proposed barrow source. <br />• FIFSD AIvU I.ABORATOPI' IKVESTIG.ATIGi7S <br />The general conditions relating to geo;ranhic Location, site <br />topography, setting and engineering geolo_~y aspects and general <br />engineering characteristics of the various soil types are presented in <br />our previous engineering report. The field investigation for this <br />report consisted of drilling an additional 15 test holes within <br />proposed embanl4nent section areas and four test holes ana eight backhce <br />pits within the proposed Pond 1 barrow area. Five test holes were <br />drilled in each of the ne.~ pond areas 2A and S. The raining test <br />holes were drilled in Ponds 3 and 4, which had only minor relocation. <br />The locations of the exploratory holes for both investigations and test <br />pits are shown on Figs. 2 through 7, and graphic logs showri~on Figs. 8 <br />. through 15. <br />Samples obtained during the field investigation sere subjected to <br />various laboratory tests to determine their standard croperties, shear <br />A <br />.~ <br />:~ <br />
