-. , <br /> <br />LA FLORIDA GRAVEL PIT <br />EXIIIBIT G <br />Reclamation Plan <br />The reclamation plan for [he La Florida travel Pit is based on consulta- <br />tion with the Soil Conservation Service, La Jara Soil Conservation District. <br />The goal of reclamation is to return the site to rangeland once mining <br />is completed. Reclamation offers an oppoutunity to improve the quality of <br />rangeland on the site. Water resources, wildlife,.and other quality in the <br />area will not be significantly affected by mining and reclamation. The <br />plan consists of several steps including removal and storeage of topsoil, <br />backsloping of cut banks, grading, replacement of topsoil, reseeding, and <br />mulching and fertilizing. <br />The topsoil which varies from four 4) to six (6) inches will be removed and <br />stockpiled on approximately one (1) acre running North and South, 100 feet <br />through the center of the mapped site. If sufficient top soil does not <br />exist on the site, other sources will be located and hauled to the site. <br />A dP.,rt. of A (6) inches of top soil, will be placed on all di~ <br />Curbed areas uni or <br />Ba=ksloping of cut banks will take place as pit expansion proceeds except <br />wh=_re backsloping would interfere with gravel stockpile area and access roa s. <br />The preferred y~~dient for all backsloped areas will be at a maxi~nun of 3: <br />slope or Platte ~ All backsloped areas will be compacted to insure stability. <br />The vegetation operations of the site, the area mined will be graded to mat <br />the contours Pf the original land and allow the return of its present u~uage <br />as rangelandf The disturbed soil surface area will then be chisled and six <br />(6) inches [o twelve inches of topsoil placed on the disturbed soil. the <br />so.El will e fertiliz 40 AC phosphate, mulched witk <br />(,4 4000# AC grass ay app ied uniforms y over the area.~ Decking will <br />follow to bind the replaced topsoil with the underlying matejrial, and to <br />cramp in mulch. <br />Reseeding will rake place in late summer to early Eall to take advantage of <br />increased soil moisture during the period, and will be conducted immediately <br />after or as soon as possible after excavation. Seed will be broadcast and <br />covered by roller packing or harrowing. Following seeding the area will be <br />protected from grazing (by fencing if necessary). A mixture of native <br />graisses as specified by [he Soil Conservation Service will be used on the <br />site (including topsoil stockpiles) species and seeding rates will be as <br />follows: <br />VARIETY SPECIES PURE LIVE SEED RATE % OF MISTURE <br /> (lbs/acre) <br />Fairway Crested Wheat .6 27 <br />Rosana IJestern Wheat 16 40 <br /> Sanddrop 0.5 33 <br />
