•
and Wildlife Service and concurred by the State of Colorado, Division of
Wildlife in June of 1982. Refer to Figures 16-2 and 16-3. Ground wire
modification recommendations will be followed.
r~
U
(3) Protection of Hydrologic Balance -See Tab Sections 17, 18, and 19.
(4) Island Acres Recreation Area is located across the river and north of the
Unit Train Loadout. The park is included in the land shown on Exhibit 3,
Tab Section 3, as being owned by the State of Colorado in Section 23,
T.10S., R.98W., 6PM. Based on the location of the public park with
respect to the nearest mine surface facility and the function of that facility
(Unit Train Loadout), the probability of any impact to the park due to
surface operations is minimal.
The park is separated from planned underground mining operations by
the Colorado River on the west and by Interstate Highway 70 on the
east. Since underground mining will not extend beneath the river or the
highway, the park will be unaffected by underground operations.
There are no public parks or places listed on the National Register of
Historic Places in the Roadside North and South Portals permit area or
adjacent area. See Appendix 5-4.
Maps locating sites within the mine plan area are available in the
Colorado Historic Preservation Office. After reviewing Powderhorn Coal
Company's mine plan, the State Historic Preservation Officer (SHPO)
determined that "there will be no effect to cultural resources".
• 16-3 (Rev. 12/16/96)
