(Golder} has prepazed this letter to address the recent failing air
entrainment test for concrete placed in the Phase IVa 42-inch CSP wing wall (down stream
wall.) The test in question was conducted on August 27, 2002 for the concrete being placed
to form the wing wall at the 42-inch CPS locations. The results of the air entrainment
indicated the concrete had an air content of 4.7 percent, which is slightly below the project
specifications of 5.0 percent. Only 3 cubic yards of concrete with low air entrainment was
placed in the wing wall.
Air entrainment in concrete is generally used to enhance workability of concrete and to
increase concrete durability. In Golder's opinion, the difference. in air entrainment from
4.7 to 5.0 percent is not significant, and would not affect the concrete workability or
durability. Therefore, Golder will accept the low air entrained concrete in the 42-inch CSP
wing wa11(down stream wall.)
Golder appreciates the ongoing opportunity to provide engineering services for the Cresson
Project.
