3.1.9 - Topsoiling <br />(1) Topsoil will be stockpiledin close proximity to the mine azeas in order to shorten haul distances <br />to and from the azeas that were stripped. Once the topsoil has been removed and segregated from <br />the other spoil or product, it will be saved for replacement. If the duration before use exceeds one <br />full growingcycle, the topsoil stockpiles will be seeded with a westemwheatgrass to wntrol erosion. <br />(2) Mining on the affected lands will disturb little to no woody vegetation, however, if any large <br />volumes of woody vegetation are produced, they will be properly placed in areas segregated from <br />the topsoil stockpiles. <br />(3) Stockpiles will be configured to minimize erosion and will be located in azeas where disturbance <br />by ongoing mining operations will be minimized. As stated in 3.1.9 topsoiling (1) above, if <br />necessary, stockpiles will be seeded for the purpose of stabilization. <br />(4) It is planned to locate topsoil stockpiles so material will only have to be handled one time. No <br />relocation of topsoil is proposed. <br />(5) The operator will take measures to assure the stability of replaced topsoil on graded slopes by <br />roughing the subgrade to gain a mechanical bond to the topsoil being replaced. This should insure <br />the elimination of any slippage zones. <br />(6) It is the operator/applicant and landowners opinion that the topsoil present on site is adequate <br />to establish the seed mix recommended by the NRCS. No replacement topsoil is planned to be <br />imported for reclamation. <br />(7) Fertilization: As per NRCS recommendation. (Pounds actual available nutrient per acre <br />recommended) as follows: Nitrogen (Nz); 0, Phosphorus (PzOs): 0, Potassium (K): 0. As stated by <br />Lee ~-,Neve, Soil Scientist in section V of his report "Since the mining area is located in a low <br />precipitation zone and there won't be any supplemental water used, fertilizer application is. not <br />recommended." <br />(8) Vegetative piles, if any, will be minimal and shall be removed from the azea or utilized in the <br />reclamation of the mine site. <br />
