The valley-fill
deposits of the Quaternary age underlie and old and partly dissected terrace, the Kersey terrace,
the Kuner terrace and the flood plain. The valley-fill deposits beneath the old terrace consist of
gravel and sand having a high percentage of clay and silt. The unconsolidated material
underlying the Kersey and Kuner terraces, the flood plain in the south Platte Rive valley
constitutes the principal valley-fill deposits. The Kersey and Kunner tenaces are well developed
throughout the river valley and extend up the wesiem tributary valleys. The valley fill deposits
consist mainly of sand and gravel but contain lenses and beds of silts and clay and the lower bed
of cobbles and bouldersl.
The valley fill deposits underlying the Nissen Gravel pit consist of saturated sands and gravels
with an average depth to water ranging from 4 to 8 feet. The Nissen pit is located on the flood
plain of the valley frl] deposits below the Kuner terrace which is approximately I S feet above the
flood plain were the eavel nit and slum wall will be located.
