Nissen Farm Resource <br />STEP- BY STEP PETROLEUM SPILL RESPONSE PROCEDURES: <br />IMMEDIATELY EXTINGUISH ALL POTENTIAL SOURCES OF IGNITION, TURN OFF <br />ENGINES, DO NOT USE CELLULAR TELEPHONES AND DO NOT SMOKE! <br />If the spill arises out of unloading operation: <br />STEP 1 Shut off the transport pump and the delivery valve will be closed immediately. <br />If the spill arises out of loading operations: <br />STEP 1 Close the nozzle valve and tum the pump off. <br />If the spill is in the tank dike/containment: <br />STEP i If possible, stop the source of the leak and verify that the dike drain valve is in the <br />closed position <br />STEP 2 The person who discovers the spill will ask for assistance from all other personnel at the <br />station to safely contain the spill and limit health or safety hazard. <br />STEP 3 Notify the Designated Responsible Person/Facility Manager <br />STEP 4 The Designated Responsible Person will evaluate the hazard to human health and <br />safety. <br />STEP 5 From aland-line telephone, call the fire department (911) and evacuate the area if there <br />is an immediate threat to human life, or if the spill is uncontrollable. Otherwise ask <br />them to stand by in case their services aze needed. <br />STEP 6 If there is no immediate threat to human life, gather all necessary personnel and <br />equipment at the station to safely contain and recover the spill. <br />STEP 7 If deemed necessary, an environmental clean-up company will by notified to oversee <br />the proper clean-up, testing and disposal of contaminated soils or product. <br />STEP 8 The Designated Responsible Person will call the State Oil Inspector (303) 318-8547 <br />within 24 hours if: <br />• The spill is greater than 25 gallons (or that causes a sheen on nearby surface <br />waters) <br />• The spill is less than 25 gallons, but the cleanup cannot be completed within 24 <br />hours of the spill <br />Hall-Irwin Corporation <br />Emergency Response Procedures for SPCC Plan Page 1 of 2 <br />
