Also
included are small areas of soils that are more or less
sloping, and small areas of soils that have a surface
layer of loam or sandy clay loam. The Larimer series
consists of deep, well drained soils that formed in
material weathered from alluvium. Typically, the
surface layer is a fine sandy loam about 4 inches
thick. The subsoil is a loam about 18 inches thick.
The substratum is about 8 inches of gravelly sandy loam
that is underlain by sand and gravel that extends to 60
inches. Permeability is moderate above a depth of
about 22 inches and rapid below that depth. The
available water capacity is medium. Reaction is
neutral above a depth of about 4 inches and mildly or
moderately alkaline below that depth. Runoff is slow.
The hazard of water erosion is slight and the hazard of
wind erosion is moderate. This unit is a Loamy Plains
range site. Capability unit is IIIe-5 Irrigated, IVe-5
Dryland
95 SATANTA LOAM, 1 TO 3 PERCENT SLOPES This level soil is
on terraces and uplands. The Satanta series consists
of deep, well drained soils that formed in mixed
alluvial and wind-deposited material. Included with
this soil in mapping are a few small areas of soils
that are more sloping or less sloping. Also included
are a few small areas of Fort Collins, Nunn, and Altvan
soils. Typically, the surface layer is loam about 7
inches thick. The upper part of the subsoil is a clay
loam and lower part is a loam about 16 inches thick.
The substratum is a loam about 21 inches thick over a
fine sandy loam extending to 60 inches or more.
Permeability is moderate, and the available water
capacity is high. Reaction is mildly alkaline above a
depth of 18 inches and moderately alkaline below that
depth. Runoff is slight, and the hazard of erosion is
slight to moderate. This unit is a Loamy Foothill range
site. Capability unit is IIe-1 Irrigated, IIIe-6
Dryland
102 STONEHAM LOAM, 3 TO 5 PERCENT SLOPES This gently
