i•
PREFACE
•
I~
The fieldwork supporting this report was oonductecl between June 20
and July 15, 1986. The project was under my field direction and I also
served as Principal Investigator on behalf of Centuries Research. My
field assistants for the inventory were Doug Potter and Tent' Welt.
Kathy Welt, thvirornpntal Specialist with Colorado Westmoreland, was
once again most helpful in conQleting logistic details and managing
CRTs contract. I am grateful to Kathy and to Matt Sakurada of CWI for
the opportutu.ty to again assist the Orchard Valley Mine. Max Witkind,
District Archaeologist for the Bureau of Land Management in the Durango
office and Chip Marlow, Cultural Resource Specialist for the BIM in
Fbntsose provided mach assistance. Their oacRents and responsiveness to
the project needs were invaluable in crnQleting this work and helping
CRI to meet the special timing needs of Colorado Westmoreland in its
attests to recover fran the fire which incapacitated the mine in June
of 1986.
Steven G. Baker, M. A.
President
Centuries Research, Inc.
September 15, 1986
~~ i
