GB/JWHNVWJ <br />6/97 <br />Ttie Lazear series consists of shallow, well drained soils that formed in residuum derived from interbedded shales, <br />loamstone, and sandstone. Lazear soils are on hills, mesas, and ridges. Slopes range from 0 to 65 percent. Mean <br />annual preclpitation is about 12 inches and the mean annual temperature is about 53 degrees F. <br />TAXONOMIC CLASS: Loamy, mixed, superactive, calcareous, mesic Lithic Ustic Torriorlhents <br />TYPICAL PEDON: Lazear gravelly loam in grassland. (Colors are for dry soil unless otherwise noted.) <br />A-0 to 4 inches; light brownish gray (10YR 6/2) gravelly loam, dark grayish brown (10YR 4/2) moist; moderate fine <br />granular structure; soft, very friable; 15 percent sandstone gravel; strongly effervescent; moderatey alkaline (pH <br />8.2); Gear smooth boundary. (3 to 5 inches thick) <br />C-~ to 14 inches; light brown (7.5YR 6/3) gravelly loam, brown (7.5YR 4/3) moist; massive; slightty hard, very <br />• friable; 20 percent sandstone gravel; strongly effervescent; moderately alkaline (pH 8.2); abrupt wavy boundary.
