• BARX SERIES <br />LOCATION BARX UT+AZ, CO <br />Established Series <br />Rev. DTH/JWHNVWJ <br />6197 <br />The Barx series consists of very deep, well drained soils that formed in alluvium and reworked eolian material <br />derived from sandstone. Banc soils are on alluvial fans, terraces, hills, and mesas. Slopes range from 0 to 15 <br />percent. Mean annual precipitation is about 11 inches and the mean annual temperature is about 49 degrees F. <br />TAXONOMIC CLASS: Fine-loamy, mixed, superadive, mesic Ustic Calciargids <br />TYPICAL PEDON: Barx very fine sandy loam, on rangeland. (Colors are for dry sot unless othervvise noted.) <br />A-0 to 3 inches; reddish brown (5YR 5/4) veryfine sandy loam, reddish brown (5YR 4/4) moist; weak medium platy <br />structure; soft, friable; common very fine and fine roots; few very fine tubular pores; moderately alkaline (pH 8.0); <br />Gear smooth boundary. (2 to 4 inches thick} <br />AB-3 to 9 inches; reddish brown (5YR 5/4) fine sandy loam, reddish brown (5YR 4/4) moist; moderate medium <br />subangular blocky structure; slightly hard, friable, slightly sticky and slightly plastic; common very fine and fine, few <br />medium roots; common very fine and fine tubular pores; moderately alkaline (pH 8.0); clear smooth boundary. (0 <br />• to 7 inches thick) <br />Bt1-9 to 15 inches; reddish brown (5YR 5/4) sandy day loam, reddish brown (5YR 4/4) moist; moderate coarse <br />subangular blocky structure; hard, firm, moderately stidry and moderately plastic; common very fine and fine, and <br />few medium roots; common very fine and fine, and few medium tubular pores; common distinct Gayfilms on faces <br />of peels; moderately alkaline (pH 8.0); Gear smooth boundary. (6 to 16 inches thick) <br />Bt2-15 to 23 inches; reddish yellow (5YR 6/6) sandy day loam, yellowish red (5YR 416) moist; moderate coarse <br />subangular blocky structure; hard, firm, moderately sticky and moderately plastic; common veryfine and fine roots; <br />few medium tubular pores; many distinct clay films on faces of peels; moderately alkaline (pH 8.0); Gear smooth <br />boundary. (6 to 12 inches thick) <br />Btk-23 to 36 inches; reddish yellowish (5YR 6/6) sandyday loam, yellowish red (5YR4/6) moist; moderate medium <br />subangular blocky structure; hard, firm, moderately stickyand moderately plastic; common veryfine and fine roots; <br />common very fine and fine tubular pores; few distinct Gay films on faces of peels; strongly effervescent; carbonates <br />segregated in filaments; moderately alkaline (pH 8.2); abrupt wavy boundary.
