County, CO (~ ~ ~ 1 >- IN - 9 } } .- 2 I S
- Surface Water Quality Monitoring Program along Windy Gulch Drainage
~ -
Dear Mr. Malecek
Homestake Mining received your letter dated June 16, 2004 regarding the status of the water quality
monitoring along the Windy Gulch drainage. The following is an update of where we are and our plans
for reporting data and information to your office.
As you are aware, the Spring 2003 meltoff in the upper Rio Grande area was quite low in terms of
stream flows into the Rio Grande watershed. We monitored for flow during the spring season and no
measurable flows were evidenced in Windy Gulch below the Bachelor Road; as a consequence we did
not collect any samples in the drainage.
This Spring season, flows were observed in Windy Gulch beginning in late March and we have been
sampling and monitoring and measuring stream flows as per our agreement and commitments made in
the approval conditions for Technical Revision 011 to our Colorado DMG ReGamation Permit. We
have taken samples on March 26, April 20 and May 16. No samples were taken during the June site
inspection as no flow was observed in Windy Gulch below the Bachelor Road.
We are currently preparing a report covering our 2004 sampling program and related data results and
expel to transmit the document to your offices and DMG on or before August 6.
Thank you for your time and attention on this matter; if you have any questions, please contact me in
our Grants office at (505) 287456 ext. 17
Sincerely y urs,
e
HOMEHTAKE MINING COMPANY
OF CALIFC RNIA
Alan D.
