Box 478
Farmington, N. M. BT499
Per your request for data concerning soils, present vegetation densities,
and reclamation the following information is provided for submission to
the Colorado State Mined Land Reclamation Board.
It is your stated plan to remove gravel from the open pit site, level with
regard to drainage after gravel extraction, and the area left as a building
site for a hay barn, equipment storage and livestock feeding area. Therefore,
revegetation information is not provided. It is our recommendation, however,
that the east and south sides of the pit be graded no steeper than a 2:1
slope to prevent soil and bank sloughing. Also, topsoil removal from the
site has not been addressed. It is the stated plan to not re topsoil the
area. The topsoil in this area will range from several inches to 5' in
depth. Placement of this overburden material must be decided upon. If
it is not wanted on the immediate site, hauling of the Overburden to low
lying areas is advantageous.
A soils boundary map and descriptions of the three present soil types is
provided for your use.
Present vegetation on the site is as follows:
Big sagebrush 30%
Western Wheatgrass 20
Indian ricegrass 5
Blue grama 5
Muttongrass 5
Junegrass 5
Needle & thread 5 Total annual production of air dry
Pinyon Pine 2 forage = 650#
Rocky Mt.
