r~•.
XTD -F ~/s3
70--Ustic Torriorthents-Ustollic Haplargids complex, 12 to 60 percent
slopes. These deep, well drained and excessively drained soils are on
moderately steep [o steep terrace edges, mesa edges, and hillsides. They
formed in gravelly and cobbly alluvium. Elevation is 6,000 to 8,500 feet.
The average annual precipitation is about 14 to 19 inches. The average
annual air temperature is 45 [0 50 degrees F., and the average frost-free
season is 100 to 130 days.
This unit is 50 percent Ustic Torriorthents and 30 percent Ustollic
Haplargids. The Ustollic Haplargids are on the less sloping portions of the
map unit. Included in this unit is about 15 percent soils overlying bedrock
at depths of 40 inches or less and small areas of shale and sandstone
outcrops.
These soils vary considerably but generally, the Ustic Torriorthents
surface layers are gravelly or cobbly loam or fine sandy loam. The
substratums are very gravelly or cobbly ou[wash material. Generally, the
Ustollic Haplargids surface layers are gravelly or cobbly loam or fine sandy
loam. The subsoils are very cobbly or very gravelly 1o am, sandy clay Loam,
or fine sandy loam. The substratums are very gravelly or cobbly outwash
material.
Permeability of these soils vary depending on the texture of the parent
material. Effective rooting depth is 40 inches or more. Available water
capacity is low. Surface runoff is rapid, and hazard of water erosion is
high.
This mapping unit is used primarily for rangeland or wildlife habitat,

and for construction materials.
