For baseline surface water samples, the DMG does not find it necessary to analyze the <br /> following parameters: <br /> phenol alkalinity <br /> cyanide <br /> total nitrogen <br /> ammonia <br /> c. For baseline surface and groundwater samples, the following analytes should be added to <br /> the lists and the following corrections should be made: <br /> pH (tenths of units,not units) <br /> antimony <br /> bicarbonate alkalinity <br /> carbonate alkalinity <br /> cobalt <br /> total nitrate+nitrite <br /> sulfide (as 1-12S) <br /> thallium <br /> uranium <br /> gross alpha <br /> gross beta <br /> d. Analytical methods should be selected to detect the regulated parameters at the most <br /> conservative regulatory levels. For instance, the aquatic standard for silver is lower than <br /> the drinking water standard, so samples should be analyzed to detect silver at levels that <br /> would affect aquatic life. Because of the high salinity of some waters, we would fully <br /> anticipate that some parameters will not be detectable using the most rigorous methods. <br /> In those cases, the operator should have the analytical labs verify the detectable limits for <br /> future use. Detection limits were discussed recently with American Soda representatives. <br /> We anticipate that a revised analyte and detection level list will be submitted very soon <br /> and the DMG will review that list immediately. <br /> 5 <br />
