FOUR CORNERS MATERIALS
A division of Oldcastle SW Group, Inc.
09 September 2003

Mr. Harry B. Ranney SEP 1 1 2003
Environmental Protection Specialist
Division of Minerals and Geology (Coal) Division of Minerals and Geology
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
Re: Carbon Junction Mine -Sediment Pond Inspections, etc.
Deaz Hany:
Enclosed with this letter, please find the sediment pond inspection reports for the Cazbon
Junction Mine for the lst 2"d and 3`d quarters of 2003. I apologize for not submitting the first
two sets eazlier.
I've also enclosed a copy of a letter I sent to Mike Savage (Savage and Savage, Inc.) regarding
the local contact information for the Colorado Wastewater Dischazge Permit for the coalmine.
Oakridge will need to update the signature and local contact portion of the pemut with the
Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.
On a related issue, I noticed as I reviewed the blank DMRs sent out for Oakridge's new
dischazge permit that only outfa11002 is mentioned (the new permit was likely obtained with the
understanding that Pond 1 would be incorporated into the gravel permit). Because Four Comers
Materials has withdrawn the DMG amendment that would have incorporated Pond 1 into the
Ewing Mesa No. 1 gravel permit, it appeazs that outfa11001 will need to be re-absorbed into the
coal permits for discharge as well as mining.
Please call with any questions or comments, or to let me know of anything I've missed.
Sincerely,
C~Q~~~~~
Mazda L.
