The Planning-Engineering Department of Montrose County, CO has expressed an
interest in assuming the legal and reclamation obligations ofwell(s) GW-N1 and/or GW-N 1 P1 for
their use at the old county landfill. WFC will not close GW-N1 and/or GW-N1P1 if the County
provides adequate documentation tothe State releasing WFC from its' obligation forthewell(s) prior
to the scheduled closure ofthe otherabandoned wells. Monitoring wells GW-N3, GW-N4, GW-N4R
and GW-N27 will be left open, but not monitored until required by the State at some as yet to be
determined date. MonitoringrecordsfortheabandonedsitescanbefoundintheAnnualHydrology
Reports filed by WFC with the State of Colorado. Table 2.04.7-1 below shows the currently
approved hydrological monitoring program. Map 2.04.7-1 has been modified to show both the
abandoned wells and those where monitoring has been discontinued as per MR-52.
APPROVED HYDROLOGICAL MONITORING PROGRAM
Table 2.04.7-1 summarizes various approved monitoring sites. They are shown on Map 2.04.7-1-A.
For New Horizon 1 Mine, these sites include those approved under the permit previously held by
Peabody Coal and later revised by Western Fuels-Colorado. For New Horizon 2 Mine, the sites are
based upon recommendations made by Greystone Consultants and subsequent revisions
requested by WFC. The monitoring plan revised as per TR38 will be adequate for the Garvey and
Burbridge leases included in the permit boundary and other mining areas to thewest-northwest that
WFC intends to include within the permit boundary in the near future.
Map 2.04.7-1 shows the locations of surface stations and wells for the New Horizon Mine 2
monitoring program. Modifications to the existing monitoring locationsforsurfaceandgroundwater
are discussed below. All data will be reported in the annual hydrology report.
(Revised 10/17/01)
2.04.7-37
