£xhibi[ 71 Hydrologic Characterization Soudt of the Divide Area and Monitoring Plan 21
• be installed in this ditch in the summer of 2006. Baseline monitoring of the Deep Creek Ditch Flume will
begin in the summer of 2006 and will include measuring flow, collecting field water quality data, and
collecting samples for laboratory water quality analyses from the installation date through October 2006
(CDMG, 2005b). Routine monitoring at this location will begin in 2007. Data from this station will
provide information on Vans-basin flows versus natural Dry Fork flows
4.3.4.2 Minnesota Reservoir Flume
MCC will install a new flume and a continuous recorder on the lower Dry Fork at the high water line of
Minnesota Reservoir. This monitoring station will provide more accurate and more representative
monitoring data since it wouldn't be influenced by variations related to reservoir activities. This
monitoring station is scheduled to be installed during the summer of 2006. Baseline monitoring of the
Minnesota Reservoir Flume will begin in the summer of 2006 and will include measuring flow, collecting
field water quality data, and collecting samples for laboratory water quality analyses from the installation
date through October 2006 (CDMG, 2005b). Routine monitoring at this location will begin in 2007.
9.3.4.3 South Prong Creek
South Prong Creek is an ephemeral stream that is tributary to upper Minnesota Creek. The north fork of
South Prong Creek drains the southern portion of the SOD azea. The monitoring station on South Prong
Creek is located at the mouth of the drainage (Map 1) and preliminary monitoring was initiated in 2005.
Baseline monitoring is scheduled to resume in 2017, or at least one year prior to when mining begins in
the azea to monitor potential mining induced impacts.
4.4 Spring and Seep Monitoring
Currently, there aze 24 springs and seeps in the WEM hydrologic monitoring program. MCC will add 5
new spring monitoring sites in the SOD (Deer Creek Spring and Pipeline, WCC-24, J-2, J-7, and 35-3)
azea. The locations of the 5 new monitored springs were selected based on spring surveys completed by
WWE (1997 and 2005). The spring monitoring stations were also selected based on long term continuous
flow data records and on projected mine development plans.
The spring and seep monitoring plan is divided into four general hydrologic categories for discussion
purposes:
o Springs and seeps in the North Fork drainage basin issuing from the strata above the F-Coal
Seam.
o Springs and seeps in the North Fork drainage basin issuing from strata in or below the F-Coal
Seam.
o Springs and seeps in the Jumbo Mountain azea in the North Fork drainage issuing from strata
above the B-Coal Seam.
M o Springs and seeps in the Dry Fork drainage issuing from strata above the E-Coal Seam.
Apri12006 HydroGeo, lnc
