Exhibit 71 Hydrologic Chazacterization South of [he Divide Area and Monitoring Plan 12
• flow from SOM-3E was less than 0.5 gallons per minute (gpm) (HydroGeo, 2003b). The potentiometric
surface of the ground water in the E-Seam (Fall 2005) shows that ground water flows to the northeast at a
gradient of about 4 percent and that the E-Seam is dry about 6, 000 feet from the outcrop. The E-Seam
potentiometric surface and surface outcrop is shown on Map 1.
Monitoring data were collected from well SOM-23-H-2-from 1994 to 1998. Monitoring and data
collection at this well was re-initiated in 2005. Monitoring data have been collected continuously from
well SOM-3E since 2003. The E-Seam ground water quality data indicate consistently high levels of
TDS, iron, and manganese.
3.2.3 Strata Above the E-Seam
Well 96-2-2 is installed in the strata between the F- and E-seams and is currently being monitored. No
permeability data are available for this well. Monitoring data have been collected from this well since
1996. The ground water quality data of the strata above the E-Seam indicate consistently high levels of
TDS, iron, and manganese.
3.2.4 F-Seam
Wells SOM-23-H-3 and SOM-C-76 are installed in the F-Seam and are currently being monitored. Based
on test data of well SOM-C-76, the calculated hydraulic conductivity of the F-Seam is 2x10'4 cm/sec
(0.57 fUday).
Monitoring data were collected from well SOM-23-H-3-from 1994 to 1998. Monitoring and data
collection at this well were re-initiated in 2005. Monitoring data have been collected from SOM-C-76
since 1978. The F-Seam ground water quality data indicate consistently high levels of TDS and iron.
3.2.5 Barren Member above F-Seam
Well SOM-23-H-4 is installed in the Barren Member of the Mesaverde Formation above the F-Seam and
is currently being monitored. No permeability data are available for this well. Monitoring data were
collected from well SOM-23-H-4-from 1994 to 1998. Monitoring and data collection at this well were re-
initiated in 2005. The ground water quality data of the Barren Member strata above the F-Seam indicate
consistently high levels of TDS.
i~
Apri12006 HydroGeo, Ine.
