Dept. of Natural Resource
This Report was develoced by the Soil Conservation Service in response to
your reouest for soils and revegetation information for the proposed gravel rit
located in NW % sec 31 R'76W T2N (Granby,Colo.).
Soils:
See attached soils descriptions from Soil Survey of Grand County l,rea,Colo.
Existing Vegetation:
The proposed gravel Fit located on a hSt. Loam/ Stony Loam SCS range site.
( see attached vegetation inventory formCO-ECS-2.)
~eclaimation Recommendations:
It is our understcnding t!-at upon the completion of the gravel extraction
that the site will be reclaimed as non-irrigated pasture.
Successful reclamation of this area is derendent uron several factors other than
the actual seeding. Final slope grades should not exceed 2:1 in steelness, with
3:1 or 4:1 beine even better. In general, the chances of successful revegetation .
increase as the Fercer.t slope decreases.mall areas with slores steeper than
3:1 are sometimes ur.avo'_dable but should be kert to a mimimum.
Poring -ravel extraction any torsoil should be stockriled for later use.
Stockpiled torsoil should be seeded to an ar.rual small train or to the enclosed
seeding recommendation if the soil is to remain stockliled for longer then one
growing season. Upon comc;letion of gravel extraction, torsoil should be spread
out over the areas to bF~ reseeded to a deFth of at least 6 to 8 inches
~;nderlying material should be scarified before toFsoilin~ to Frovide a
good bond bet'.+een substratum and the torsoil. :;ithout topsoiling revcgetati~n
success is unlikely.
Seedbed prerer tion is probably the most irt.rortant factor determining th~_
success in establishing permanent vegetat'_vv cover. Seed should be placed }= to
'~ inch deer ir,tn a friable but firm seedbed.
