Oehler September 8, 1997 <br />Environmental Protection Specialist <br />Division of Minerals and Geology <br />Dept. of Natural Resources <br />1313 Sherman St., Room 215 <br />Denver, CO 80203 <br />RE: Informal Conference, Agile Stone Systems, Inc., Parkdale <br />Project, 112 Permit Application, File No. M-97-054 <br />Dear Mr. Oehler: <br />In response to your letter of September 4, 1997, Clean Water <br />Action, a national non-profit citizens' advocacy group for the <br />environment with over 70,000 members in Colorado, wishes to go on <br />record against the permit requested by Agile Stone Systems for the <br />following reasons: <br />(i) Agile Stone Systems plans to use 30,000 gallons of water <br />per day to wash down the dust from the gravel pit operation. We <br />don't think this is a good use of a limited resource in the West. <br />Where is this water to come from and who has the senior and junior <br />rights to this water? <br />(2) We are also concerned about the impact of contamination <br />and silt on the trout population in Tallahassee Creek as well as <br />the impact of constant blasting on the nearby Big Horn Sheep herds <br />during the lambing season. <br />We are not opposed to all gravel pit operations. However, we are <br />opposed to this particular operation because of its location and <br />potential impact on water quality and wildlife. <br />We respectively ask that these remarks be read into the record and <br />become a part of the record at the Informal Conference. <br />Sin rely, <br />Carmi McLean <br />Colorado Director <br />cc H.
