II`I,ATIC+I
Denver, Colorado 80203 Colo. Dept. of itiutural fje.Uurces
Re: Mining and Reclamation Plan
Bestway Paving Company
Greeley, Colorado
Gentlemen:
It is my understanding that your commission will be considering
the mining and reclamation plan as filed by Bestway Paving at your
September 27 and 28 meeting to be held in Steamboat Springs.
Please note that I am opposed to a mining operation of any kind
on this property because it is in a residential area. It is not zoned
for industrial uses. However, if it is to be mined, there are a number
of questions I feel should be answered before any plan is approved:
1. Has Bestway given specific committments to insure that the
quality of our neighborhood will not deteriorate from dust,
noise and visual pollution?
2. Noise from the Bestway operation is already a problem for
residents and school children in the area. Has Bestway
made specific committments to prevent this from increasing?
Will there be more and bigger trucks as the operation
expands?
3. What organization or commission (state, local or federal) is
ultimately responsible for seeing that all requirements are
met by Bestway in the future?
4. How can Bestway Paving have published legal notices that are
false? There is a great deal of public interest in this matter
and to have a so called public meeting held over 200 miles from
the citizens directly involved is surely trickery on the part
of someone. To have such meeting advertised as being held in
Denver when it is not-is worse.
5. Is it really necessary to mine second grade gravel in the
middle of a residential neighborhood when there are miles of
top grade gravel available all along the Cache La Poudre
river from Fort Collins to Fort Morgan and beyond?
Your thoughts and considerations on the above will be appreciated.
Sincerely,
* --O/r
Mik.
