Peel, PG <br />Date: March 15, 2001 <br />Re: Hydrologic relationship between the Pack Rat/Hubbard Mine <br />and the Pack Rat Spring, Mesa County, Colorado. <br />Purpose <br />In a letter Umetco received from the Colorado Department of Health and Environment <br />(Laboratory and Radiation Division), dated August 23, 2000, the Division states "Thus, <br />the Division has made a preliminary determination that no permit would be required <br />for the Pack Rat Spring. However, this determination will need to be verified by any <br />applicable information from Umetco That this spring is upstream, upgradient and not <br />influenced by or connected to the mining areas." It is the purpose of this technical <br />memorandum to present the available data and an evaluation of this data in order to <br />determine if the Pack Spring is influenced by or connected to the Pack Rat/Hubbard <br />mine workings. <br />Scope <br />An analysis and interpretation of all available mine maps, exploration "box-score" <br />maps, exploration cross sections, and exploratory drill hole data in the vicinity of the <br />Pack Rat/Hubbard mine workings and the Pack Rat Spring was conducted. All <br />available chemical analysis from water collected at the Pack Rat Portal and Pack Rat <br />Spring were also reviewed and analyzed. This data was incorporated with information <br />gathered during studies and site visits made in 1993 and in 1996. A return visit was <br />made to the Pack Rat Portal and Pack Rat Spring in October 2000. <br />Summary and Conclusions <br />• The Pack Rat/Hubbard Mines are located in the upper part of the "ore-bearing <br />sandstone," stratigraphically separated from the Pack Rat Spring by an impermeable <br />
