i 1
it ' in a long residence times and, thus, a greater degree of
mineralization in the water. The dat_^ a i__, n_~_dicate there is
' probably a hydraulic connection between the Rito Seco and the
Santa Fe Conglomerate, but the two systems have come to
equilibrium over along period of time with very little active
' interchange of flow at this time. Permeabilities in the Santa
Fe Congolomerate have been measured on the order of ]0-6
' cm/sec.
' As Figure G-9 shows, artesian conditions exist along the
south and west portion of the west ore body in the ore zone
' aquifer. Two of these artesian wells were ~:onverted to
monitoring wells to facilitate a flow test to assess aquifer
hydraulic conditions in the Precambrian aquifer in this
' vicinity. Two wells that were completed, and shut in, were well
nos. D87-22 and 87-112. The locations of these flowing wells
1 are shown in Figure G-1.
' On November 13 and 14, 1987, these wells were allowed
to flow at a constant wellhead pressure of four pounds per
square inch (psi). Figures G-10 and G-11 show liow the flow
' rate declined as a function of time during this; test. Well
D87-22 had an initial flow rate of 455 gallons per mi nute
' (gpm), while well 87-112 had an initial flow rate of 677 gpm.
The final flow rate for well D87-22 was 192 gpm and for well
' 87-112 was 131 gpm after flowing for one day.
t These flow test data were analyzed using the,lacob-Lohman
analytical procedure for a constant head, variable discharge
t test (Jacob and Lohman, 1952). These analyses, {resented in
Figures G-12 and G-13, indicate an initial yield at well 87-
112 of 37,500 gallons per day per foot (gpd/ft), with a final
' yield of 2,150 gpd/ft. Likewise, the Jacob-Lohman analytical
technique for well D87-22 indicated an initial yield of 14,400
' gpd/ft, with a final yield of 5,100 gpd/ft.
1
G-31
1
