~, ~ 3 is on a tributary to Rito Seco which is fed from a spring.
The water quality of RS-3 is more indicative of groundwater
quality which is the source of the flow, than water quality
' in the main portion of Rito Seco. In general, the water in Rito
Seco is good and able to support the existing classification
' as a Class 1 Cold Water Aquatic Life stream with Class 1
Recreational Use and Agriculture Uses. The Receiving Stream
i ' Standards also list the use of this stream as a domestic water
supply, however, no evidence could be obtained tc support the
t use of Rito Seco waters as a domestic water supply.
' The single-stage sediment samplers that are installed
at each of the six surface water gaging staticns have not
sampled any storm events to date. Due to a low snow pack uuring
' the 1987-1988 winter season, spring runoff in this area was
quite low. A program to attempt to grab suspended sediment
' samples during storm events as they occur has recently been
instituted. This program will help produce data relative to
the existing suspended sediment load during storm events. The
sediment load is expected to be quite high in tFiis area due
t to the earthen channel and embankment, as well as high runoff
from the adjacent watershed.
' G.3 Groundwater
' G.3.1 Local Geology
t The geology in the vicinity of the San Lui<_ Project is
composed predominantly of Precambrian age granitic: gneiss and
biotite amphibole gneiss. Overlying these rocks are Tertiary
age Santa Fe Conglomerate, in places up to 17~)-ft thick,
including local alluvium. The Santa Fe Conglomerate is
' generally absent above 8,800 ft in elevation over most of the
property.
1

G-28
1
