Hose clamps are
' utilized to aid in equalizing flow rates. During the humidified time
period (3 days), approximately 110-150 mis of vaporized water pass
through each cell. Ambient temperatures during testing range from 60'
' to 80' F. Sample material contained in the cell is left undisturbed
for the duration of the test.
~ RESULTS
t All analytical results on leachates generated from each cell are
reported on a standard format. Graphs of pH, cumulative sulfate, and
' cumulative acidity versus time are also reported.
DISCUSSION
Kinetic tests used to predict acid mine drainage are a relatively
new concept. Humidity cell tests are designed to measure the rate of
oxidation and weathering of various types of materials. Operating
specifications are flexible and can be designed to best match a
particular environment. Results can also be reported in a format that
~ best fits the needs of the project.
Sobek, Andrew A., Shuller W.A., Freeman J.R., and Smith, R.M., Field
And Laboratory Measurements Applicable to Overburden and Minesoil, EPA-
600/2-78-054, March 1978, pp. 182-185.
~ Ferguson, K.D., Static and Rinetic Methods to Predict Acid Mine
Drainage, Department of the Environment, Environmental Protection
Service, Pacific Region, July, 1985. 37 pages.
Skousen, J.G., Sencindiver, J.C., and Smith, R.M., A Review of
Procedures for Surface Mining and Reclamation in Areas with Acid-
Producing Materials, Division of Plant and Soil Sciences, College of
Agriculture and Forestry, West Virginia University, Morgantown, West
Virginia, April, 1987. pp 3-8.
Williams, R.D., Schuman, G.E., Reclaiming Mine Soils and Overburden in
~ the Western United States, Analytical Parameters and Procedures, Soil
Conservation Society of America, 1987. pp. 233-258.
ina dndlyYi, Opmgns w inbrpreli~pns conlamee m Ines report aye Wzeu upon oosenauons one mdlendi supp~~ep Ur me cl~nnl Iw .nme e.cW:.re anu i%^N.~and uac v„a wy.w i~n
Evan mob Tnp mtwpameoru a ppmona aapasW represam rn.
