February 26, 1977
MEMORANDUM
T0: Jim Schmeiding
iii iiiiiiiiiiiu iii ~- 5~
sss ~
`_
FROM: Janice W. Jory ~=
Re: Sterling Ready Mix 'r) ~C he l(o - J Co.
You have expressed some concern recently, that Sterling Ready Mix
deposited a check in the amount of $5000 with the Mined Land Reclatn
ation Board and there was no record made of the deposit.
This is to serve as record of the transaction.
On February 22, 1977, you presented the application to the Bo:ird
for their approval. After they were heard, Larry O'Brien and
the operator came to the office. As I was here, and you were still
at the Board meeting, the operator explained to me that when you
made your recommendation for bond, the Board approved the amount
of $5000 and gave the operator permission to immediately deposit
a check in that amount, to let him obtain his permit right away,
and that later he would replace that check with a C.D. in that
amount. I accepted the check, put it in an envelope marked w:Cth
instruction to hold for a C.D, to replace, put your name on the
envelope along with the operators name, and placed it in the ;>afe.
When you returned to the office, I informed you of the transa~=lion
and assumed you would handle it from there on.
From that point, you have shown me that the C.D. arrived at tl~e
office marked attn: Janice Jory. I explained to you that that was
probably because he had talked to me, and left his check with me.
I did not intend, in any way, to take responsibility for your
operation.I presumed that when I told you that the check was here,
you would take it from there and make adequate record of the trans-
action. I hope this makes the situation clear.
,. i.---'
