The County needs a source of suitable surfacing mat
to mix wlth material from the existing pit for County road maintenance. No construction
costs are involved for facilities. Costs involved are the crushing costs. The nearest
known available source of suitable gravel is South Fork which involves a 50 mile round
trip haul distance making this alternative economically unfeasible. (If extra space is needed, use page 3, REMARKS).
There could be a slight lowering of the air quality in the immediate area of the pit when
actual crushing occurred. This is considered minimal, however, and any dust could be
dispersed relatively quickly because of the air currents in the area. Y~fiile the area
can be seen from various locations along County Highway 149 and the Middle Creek Road, th
visual impacts are ~nsidered minimal because of the distance the pit ttiould be located
from these roads. The existing State borrow area and stockpiled rock is not readily evi-
dent or seen by frost travelers and no negative public reaction has ever been expressed.
No adverse impacts on the surface and ground water quality or quantity will occur.
