4.4 Prime Farmland Determination
The SCS has determined that no prime farmland exists in Routt County because of cold
temperatures and a short growing season (SCS, 1980, and October 1982). Formal letters from
SCS, expressing a negative determination of prime farmland status for the Seneca II and
Seneca II-W Mine properties, have been included in previous permit applications. For the Yoast
study area, a prime farmland determination request was made to the SCS State Office in
Denver. A reply, dated September 9, 1992, indicated, as before, no prime farmland occurs in
Routt County (SCS, 1992). This document, a computer printout of all listed map units which
meet prime farmland status, is presented in Addendum 3. There were no soils or map units
listed, and astick-on attached to the list by SCS states "in other words, none" indicating no
prime farmland soils are present in Routt County (SCS 1992). PWCC, therefore, requests a
negative determination for the Yoast study area based on this SCS information which meets
CDMG rule 2.04.12(2,3) negative determination requirements.
4.5 Mapping Unit Descriptions and Soil Interpretations
Mapping units are depicted by map symbol, name, and slope percentages in Table 4, Guide to
and Areal Extent of Soil Mapping Units Identified for the Yoast Development Area. The areal
extent of each mapping unit in acres, and percent of total, is also provided in Table 4. Detailed
descriptions of each mapping unit are provided in Addendum 4, Soil Map Unit Characteristics. •
These map units are presented in numerical order by map symbol and include:
• Map unit symbol and name with associated slope range;
• Major map unit components and their percentages;
• Map unit inclusions and their percentages;
• Slope and physiography (terrain) description;
• Parent material type;
• Erosion hazard from wind and water (descriptive term);
• Land capability classification; and
• Range Site Classification.
•
20
