Hazeltine/Road Runners Rest II/l3rinkmann-Woodward Gravel Pits Lining Project- Design Technical Memorandum
Denver Water
August 2003
4.3 Representative Cross Sections
Based on the results of our subsurface exploration program, packer permeability tests, and
knowledge of the local subsurface conditions, we developed six generalized cross sections to
represent the subsurface conditions around the west, north, and east sides of the combined
Hazeltine/Road Runners Rest IUBrinkmann-Woodward pits. The subsurface conditions used
for each cross section are based on the subsurface stratigraphy and bedrock properties
identified in the borings that are located within the section.
The six representative cross sections are illustrated on Figures 4.2 through 4.7 and the general
locations of each representative section are shown on Figure 4. ] . The bedrock was modeled
with 3 to 5 horizontal bedrock layers with varying thickness for each cross section and the fill
and alluvial deposits that overlie bedrock were modeled as one horizontal layer.
A table with the depths, degree of weathering, and predominant material type for each
horizontal bedrock layer is provided in Appendix B. The approximate stations where the cross
sections are located, corresponding sections from previous analyses (GEI, 2001 b), and the
representative borings from which the bedrock profiles were developed are shown in Table 4.1.
TABLE 4.1
CROSS SECTION LOCATIONS
Corresponding
Cross Sections from GEI,
ection A roximate Stations 2001 Re resentative Borin s

1 91+00 to 105+00; 118+00 to
A
~
E B-103, B-100, B-111, B-403, B-
129+50 '
' 404, B-407, B-408
2 87+00 to 91+00; 105+00 to 118+00 F B-109, B-402, B-405, B-406
3 5+00 to 33+50; 49+50 to 57+75; P B-104
B-107
B-115, B-401
65+50 to 82+00 ,
,
4 33+50 to 42+50; 57+75 to 65+50; B H I J L pq N p B-101, B-105, B-106, B-108, 6-
82+00 to 87+00; 147+00 to 148+00 114, B-116, B-117, B-120
5 0+00 to 5+00; 42+50 to 49+50 K, Q B-113, B-118
6 129+50 to 147+00 C B-102, B-112, B-409
The soil-bentonite cutoff wall was modeled as a 2.5-foot-wide zone extending from the ground
surface downward into the bedrock
Boundary conditions used were either constant head, no-flow, or review boundaries. A
constant head boundary is a boundary where the water surface (head) remains constant. A no-
flow boundary is a boundary where the flow of water is not allowed to enter or exit the model.
GEI Consultants, Ina n 0305003-07-~1 IA-Iluchinc Dcsien TM
