HazeltinelRoad Runners Rest II/Brinkmann-Woodward Gravel Pits Lining Project -Design Technical Memorandum
Denver Water
August 2003
Between about Stations 40+00 and 85+00, a slope height of 35 feet was modeled.
Generally where the interior slopes were flatter than 1.75H:1 V, sufficient crest width
was available, and stabilization fill will not be required to construct the cutoff wall.
Generally where the existing interior slopes were steeper than 1.75H:1 V, stabilization
fill will be required. Safe interior offset distance of 7 feet was used to select the
alignment based on a stabilization fill slope of 2.SH:1 V.
• Between about Stations 85+00 and 106+00, a slope height of 55 feet was modeled.
Generally the interior slopes were flatter than 2H:1 V resulting in an interior offset
distance of 2 feet. Although the required offset distance from the crest was 2 feet, an
interior offset distance of 10 feet was selected to provide room for construction
equipment.
• Between about Stations 106+00 and 148+00, the alignment is located in unmined areas.
Although the required offset distance is about 1 foot, an interior offset distance of 15
feet was used to select the alignment to account for variations during the mining
operations.
Between about Stations 85+00 and 148+00, a groundwater drain, will be installed to
manage groundwater mounding. The exterior limit of the safe zone was set at 15 feet
from the centerline of the groundwater drain.
The selected design crest width does not include the width of the working platform that maybe
needed by the Contractor for construction of the wall. We have assumed that the Contractor
will provide temporary berms in areas where a wider crest width is necessary to provide the
working platforms. Moreover, the horizontal alignment was selected in some areas (such as
Station 40+00 to Station 64+00) based on estimated topography of side slopes, because
continuing mining work had substantially altered the slopes in these areas.
GEI Consultants, Inc. 14 o?oso o~-Dana-n~ret~r o~~.~rM
