Because ground water movement in Piceance basin is both local and <br />regional, a locally limited approach/concern of the potential impacts from <br />the project on the basin hydrology, and ultimately the hydrology of the <br />Colorado River basin, must not be myoptic. It seems possible that 400 <br />plus cavities likely could weaken the structural integrity of the bottom third <br />of a 2000 foot rock sequence mined over a large area. Should <br />catastrophic failure occur in the later stages of the project, significant long- <br />term impacts could occur to the lands in northern Piceance basin. Also, <br />possible breaches to hydrologic containment from rock fracturing could <br />increase salt loads to the White River and upper Colorado River basin. <br />
