2z
AQUIFER MONITORING NEAR THE DISSOLUTION SURFACE: American
Soda has re-entered the existing 20-1 well for the purpose
of monitoring the groundwater for potential changes in fluid
pressure, water quality (conductivity), and fluid
temperature associated with operation of the solution mining
well. This well is located approximately 100 feet from the
20-3 production well and is completed to just above the ~a~M
Dissolution Surface at a depth of 1,397 feet. The BLM is ,,~~tt~~Ny~
requiring that, if water levels begin to rise in the 20-1 ~~I~1 S
well, an evaluation will be implemented by the BLM and ~' ^~ K
American Soda to determine the source of the head increase (`~
(BLM 1997). EPA will be notified within five (5) days of an
increase in water levels. American Soda has agreed to
measure the water level monthly and to cap the 20-1 well,
per BI,M, should the water level rise 50 feet above baseline
conditions (American Soda 1997). These data will also be
provided to EPA.
UINTA FORMATION AQUIFER MONITORING: The water supply well
(20-8) will be used to monitor the groundwater in the Uinta
Formation. American Soda has also established a
downgradient monitoring well in the Uinta Formation to
monitor any effect on water in the lower portion of the
Uinta Formation. This well, denoted well 20-5, is located
approximately 180 feet north of the solution mining well.
Well 20-5, is completed to a depth of 642 feet. The water
level in the. Uinta Formation aquifer will be measured and
recorded weekly. The EPA Class V UIC authorization also
requires that water quality in the Uinta Formation be
monitored by the 20-8 water supply well and the 20-5
monitoring well. This monitoring will continue as part of
this permit.
Monitoring Information
(Condition 2)
Records of any monitoring activity required under this
permit shall include:
ia) The dates, exact place, and the time interval of
sampling, monitoring, or field measurements;
(b) She name of the individual(s) who performed the
sampling or measurements;
(c) The exact sampling methods! used to take samples:-
(d) The date(s) laboratory analyses were performed;
(e) The name of the individual(s) who performed the
analyses:
