. ~~. F' • III IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII. RECEII/ED
MINED LAND WILDLIFI ggg .IDN~evised) MAR 231981
for limited impact and select regular mine applications MINED LAND
RECLAMATION piVISION
The following information pertaining to wildlife is provided for use by Mined Land
Reclamation Board in their consideration of a mining permit for:
Mitchell Mine: T3S-R63W-NE,NEy,S34
Name/Type and Location of Mine (Legal)
Wildlife Species list: Mule Deer, P.accoon, Fox, Coyote, Jackrabbit,
Pocket Gopher, Ground Squirrels, Meadowlark, Lark Bunting,
Red-Tailed Hawk, Rough-Legged Hawk, Swainson's hawk, Bullsnake.
Endangered/critical species/impacted:
Possible occassional use by Golden Eagle
Critical habitats/vegetative communities Smpacted:
Area consists predominantly of an upland site comprised primarily
by shortgrass prairie and yucca. Also, a portion of the
eastern site enters into riparian habitat associated with
Kiowa Creek with potential impacts to a few mature cottonwoods
as indicated on the attached map submitted by applicant.
Assessment of impact:
If properly mined and reclaimed impacts should be minor.
Efforts should be made to minimize impacts to mature cottonwoods
and to prevent ei~osibn and siltation -caused by stormwater
runoff across the site into Kiowa Creek.
Mine Reclamation recommendations (include key species/habitats for which restoration
is designed).
Site should be reclaimed with proper sloping and establishment
of native gcasses such to minimize problems from erosion
due to stormwater runoff. If the water table is contacted
during the course of mining creation of small impoundments
with proper sloping would be most beneficial t.o wildlife
species associated with Kiowa Creek. Consultation with SCS
should take place to determine proper seed mixture and seeding
rate for reclamation of the site. Consultation with DOW
should take place reference location of a tree nursery in
such close proximity to a known concentration of mule deer
and how potential impacts would need to be minimized.
Prepared By:
Submitted By: ~t[(f?^AAf1Ci (,l C~~ll~l{/~/~,~~
This statement is void if not processed within 1 year.
This analysis does not constitute approval of application.
Date: /(a ~ir~j /9iQf
Date{ ~~ l ~~q~
