Neither will it put to use processed water
during the normal mining operations. The mine is located approximately 70 feet
above the water table and the formation being mined is not active as an ,
aquifer. Therefore, BLUE FLAME COAL COMPANY will not create any impact on the
sub-surface hydrologic balance.
MINE SITE SURFACE HYDROLOGY:
BLUE FLAME COAL MINE will have little to no impact on the grow
system and a slight impact on the surface hydrology. Proposed mining
upper Menefee coal seam will not disrupt aquifers, streams, or the wa
(upslope areas of permit area).
The mining bench is located in the upper reaches of the H
drainage system. The diversion ditches, sedimentation ponds, and
structures are depicted on the Mine Surface Map and Hydrology Map.
~ water ~~; ~ ~
Ln this
~r shed I
f•
;: ~;.
e.
~ r
y ~'~;Y l
~ Gulch'.: ira~~
. ~ TJ .yvu+,~. ",
surface ~ i:;: !"
Surface run-off on and around the mine site will be handled in two
ways: (]) surface flow over the disturbed mining bench will be collected into a
sediment pond, and surface flow from the up-slope (watershed) areas will be
diverted around the mine bench into the meadow North of the mine site. See
Hydrology Map.
The disturbed acreage is limited to 4.] acres upon which the current
surface facilities are constructed. Natural drainage over this area is to the
North on a slope of less than 6$. Little or no top soil remains on the mining
bench. Historically, the mining of coal at this site has spanned thirty years;
no top soil was ever saved or stored. One sediment pond, North of the mine
bench and adjacent to the meadow will contain water and sediment run-off from
the disturbed surface.
