The Service's Colorado
Field Office should be contacted immediately for further guidance if a field survey identifies the
existence of one or more active bird nesu that cannot be avoided by the planned work.
Adherence to these guidelines will help avoid the unnecessary take of migratory birds and the
possible need for law enforcement action.
The Colorado Division of Wildlife (CROW) maintains records of eagle nest locations in the
state, and the Service coordinates closely with CDOW regarding appropriate buffers around
eagle. Although a golden eagle nest is know from the pmjec[ vicinity, it is our understanding
that it is at a distance that suggests impact to the eagles from `on-site operations would not be
......likely. ..._,_..__ ._._.. _, _.._ ........ ... .. - _ .. _.._.._. ... - - -- . ~... ~-- ---._ ._. .._.. _ .
CDOW is also the best source of information regarding potential impacts of the project on elk
and deer, and may be helpful in suggesting appropriate site restoration following mining.
