-. ---;
and phosphorus bearing mineral deposits that could possibly drain from the mine operation and
according to the operator non was found. Other concems raised by the citizens regarding toxic
metals and Uranium from past mining activities were also investigated by the operator's
independent contractor .According to the report, no evidence of Uranium ore or past mining of
metallic minerals was evident anywhere on the site.
Ground water concems other than water quality was raised by well owners within the vicinity of
the proposed permit azea. Citizens within 11/2 miles of the permit area expressed concern that
the mining activity could impact their well's ability to supply water.
1) The mine does not plan to use well water.
2) All the water that will be utilized by the mine will be diverted from the Arkansas River
3) No ground water will be exposed by the mining operation be it bed rock or other wise.
4) Most of the mining will be North of the Sedimentary bed rock.
5) Well capacity tests for wells and springs within 11 /2 miles of the permit area that the operator
was able to conduct were done. No probable cause of well capacity decrease can be expected
because as the operator correctly pointed the Arkansas river to appeaz to serve as a hydraulic
boundary, which is normally expected to have a nearly constant head conditions.
The Division agrees, based on the data provided by [he operator ,that if there are changes in bed
rock well production, or water quality in azeas South of the River, producing bedrock Aquifer
wells which appear to be structurally not connected or isolated from the project will most likely
be not associated with the project related sources. The Division believes impact to the hydrology
within the vicinity of the proposed operation to be minimum at best.
CC: James Stevens
PS:
The fact that there is a sedimentary bed rock below the gravel operation will have little bearing
on impacts to ground water hydrology.
