Cattany
Division Director
Natural Resource Trustee
Thank you for your letter of July 3, 2003 regazding the surface water test results for the A-Pit Reservoir. Attached
are letters of correspondence that explain the water monitoring requirements regazding the CKD disposal site
approved under Technical Revision OI (TR-01}. Below is an outline the specifics of the monitoring plan obtained
from correspondence during the adequacy review period for TR-Ol.
• Any water accumulation in the C-Pit shall be monitored twice a yeaz for thallium and selenium and A-Pit
will be monitored twice a yeaz for thallium and selenium (pH and Conductivity} to establish an
"upgradient" water quality. Monitoring results shall be submitted to the Division with the Annual Report.
(Source; December 1, 19991etter from Banks & Gesso, LLC.)
• After the numeric standazds have been set, any exceedances will be reported to [he Division immediately.
A written report will be submitted to the Division within five (5) working days. (Source; February 1 Q
20001etter from Bankr & Gesso, LLC.)
• The numeric protection levels (NFL's) aze as follows:
pH 6.5-8.5 std. units
Conductivity Measure and report
Se 0.02 mg/L
Tl 0.002 mg/L
Monitoring must be conducted twice yearly, and submitted with the Annual Reclamation Report. The
Division recommends that more frequent monitoring be conducted for pH and conductivity than what was
approved in TR-Ol. In the event pH or conductivity increases, the Division should be notified and more
frequent monitoring for possible metal contaminants should be conducted and reported.
