Thy f~oCr~it Group
An Environmental Services Company
August 7, 1998
Mr. Dennis Jones
Peabody Coal -Seneca Mine
Drawer D
Hayden, Colorado 81639
Dear Dennis:
I am pleased to enclose the report for the Partial Toxicity Investigation (PTI) performed with the
Gas Research Institute Freshwater Salinity Toxicity Relationships model. The model shows that
the Ceriodaphnia would be affected by the levels of dissolved solids found in the 005 discharge.
The model also shows that the Daphnia magna would not be as affected by these levels of TDS.
Since the CDPHE suggested using the STR model for TDS determination, there should be no
problem with the state approving the substitution of Daphnia magna for the Ceriodaphnia in the
acute WET testing for your 005 discharge.
Please feel free to call me if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
~-\~
Kelt r A.
