Working Area, Haul Road and Loadout Area Ditches
These ditches consist of the collection ditches in the working area, the ditches
along the haul road, and the ditches in the loading area. Details of these ditches are
given in Table 2, and the cross sections are portrayed on Figure 4.
The working area ditches collect the drainage from the entire working area, the
area occupied by the mine office, maintenance buildings and yards, and warehouses,
and direct this drainage to the working area sedimentation pond.
The haul ores ditches collect the drainage interceoted by the haul roads and
originating on the haul roads and take the drainage to road culverts for passing under the
haul road into natural drainages.
The loadout area ditches consist of a ditch to divert water from undisturbed area
away from the loadout area and ditches within the loadout area to collect the drainage and
direct it to the loadout area sedimentation pond.
All these ditches have been designed to contain flow from a 10-year precipitation
event in accordance with the Board regulations For permanent ditches draining areas less •
than one square mile. The working area and loadout area ditches will he maintained for
the duration of the mining activity, and then will be removed restoring the ground to its
original contour and drainage patterns. The haul road ditches will likewise be removed
along with the haul road restoring the ground to its original contour if there is no need for
the haul road following the mining activity. However, if there remains a need for the
haul road for other activity following the end of mining, the haul road ditches would be
left in place.
ROAD CULVERTS
Some 25 culverts have been installed under the roads on the mining property.
Nineteen of these culverts are under the haul road, four culverts are under roads in the
loadout area, and two culverts are under railroad tracks in the Gossard loadout loop.
Details of these 25 culverts are given in Tables 3 thru 6, and typical sections are shown
on Figure 5.
•
3
