UTAH 8411 O
801-5343600
November 10, 1981
Mr. Arnold Olson
Beak Consultants, Inc.
Market Towers I
3033 Parker Road
Aurora, CO 80014
Dear Arnie:
The following are replies to the sediment pond comments from CMLRD con-
cerning linings, dewatering systems, and haffles:
1. Lining sediment ponds are not anticipated for the sediment
ponds to be constructed. Three ponds have been construc-
ted to date and of the three, only one pond has required
lining, the east mine pond. This pond was lined using
• reinforced gunite. Should newly constructed ponds be
found to leak, they will be lined to prevent or reduce
such leakage.
2. Dewatering systems will be installed in each pond so that
the pond may be drained to the sediment storage level.
3. All of WSC's ponds are total containment structures, there-
fore, it is not necessary to install baffles. The only time
that water will be entering and leaving the pond at the
same time is when the precipitation event exceeds the ten-
year 24-hour event.
This information should be reflected in the Hawk's Nest Mine application.
If you have any questions, please contact me. Thank you.
Sincerely,
NORTHWESTfJPIPELI E COR ATION
Mark R.
