M98168GE • •
readings during consolidation rate tests, readings during an
increment of load were taken regularly until the change in sample
height was leas than 0.001 inch over a two hour period. The
results of the swell-consolidation load test are summarized on
Figures B1 through B3, swell-consolidation tests.
It should be noted that the graphic presentation of consolidation
data is a presentation of volume change with change in axial load.
As a result, both expansion and consolidation can be illustrated.
Direct Shear Strength Tests
Direct shear strength properties of sleeve samples were evaluated
in general accordance with testing procedures defined by ASTM Test
Method D3080. An internal angle of friction of 25 degrees and a
cohesion of 250 pounds per square foot were used in our analysis
for the onaite soils and internal angel of friction of 25 degrees
and a cohesion of 1,000 pounds per square foot were used in our
analysis for the formational material.
Unconfir,ad Compressive Strength Teat
Unconfined compressive strength properties of sleeve samples were
evaluated in general accordance with testing procedures defined by
ASTM Test Method D2166. The testa were performed using a strain
controlled compression testing machine. The results of the
unconfined compressive strength test are presented on Figure B4.
Sieve Analysis Tests
Sieve analysis testa were conducted on selected samples of the
material obtained during our field study. The sieve analysis tests
were conducted in general accordance with ASTM Teat Method D422.
The results of the sieve analysis tests were not available at the
time of this report and will be presented when available.
Atterberg Limits Teats
Atterberg limits teats were conducted on samples obtained during
our field study. The Atterberg limits testa were conducted in
general accordance with ASTM Teet Method D43I8. The results of the
Atterberg limits tests were not available at the time of this
report and will be presented when available.
B2
~tam6ert anD ~,s~~aciate,~
COMWtTINO OtOi[CNNIGA~ tNODlttp AMD
uATlbAI IttTINO
