M98168GE • •
1.0 INTRODUCTION
This report presents the results of the geotechnical engineering
study we conducted for the proposed Upper Plant Site, near Meeker,
Colorado. The study was conducted at the request of Mr. Mark
Drzewiecki, Project Procurement Manager, Kvaerner Metals, in
accordance with our proposal for geotechnical engineering services
dated July 29, 1998.
The conclusions, suggestions and recommendations presented in
this report are based on the data gathered during our site and
laboratory study and on our experience with similar soil condi-
tions. Factual data gathered during the field and laboratory work
are summarized in Appendices A and B.
1.1 Proposed Construction
It is our understanding that the proposed project will include a
process building and ancillary equipment. The process building
will have column loads of up to four hundred fifty (450) tone.
Ancillary equipment loads will be in the range of about one hundred
sixty (160) to two hliadred (200) tons. We anticipate that some
site grading consisting of placed fill and constructed fill slopes
will be included in the proposed site development.
1.2 Scope of Services
Our services included geotechnical engineering field and labora-
tory studies, analysis of the acquired data and report preparation
for the proposed site. The scope of our services is outlined
below.
- The field study consisted of describing and sampling the soil
materials encountered in five (5) auger advanced teat borings
at the proposed process plant site location. The teat borings
were advanced at or near locations indicated on a site plan
provided by Kvaerner Metals.
- The soil materials encountered in the teat borings were
described and samples retrieved for the subsequent laboratory
study.
Lambert ana ~,a~ociateo
COMMIlT1N0 OlOTlONN10~L tNOIY{{p •NO
Y~i{111111 f[lTINO
