M92026GE <br />• <br />APPENDIX A <br />The field study was performed on July 27, 1990. The field <br />study consisted of logging and sampling the soils encountered in <br />five (5) test holes. The approximate locations of the test holes <br />are shown on Figure 2. The log of the soils encountered in the <br />test holes are presented on Figures A2 through A6. <br />The test holes were logged by Lambert and Associates and <br />samples of significant soil types were obtained. Bulk samples were <br />obtained from the test holes. <br />The engineering field description and major soil <br />classification are based on our interpretation of the materials <br />encountered and are prepared according to the Unified Soil <br />• Classification System, ASTM D2488. Since the description and <br />classification which appear on the test hole log is intended to be <br />that which most accurately describes a given interval of the test <br />holes (frequently an interval of several feet) discrepancies do <br />occur in the Unified Soil Classification System nomenclature <br />between that interval and a particular sample in the interval. For <br />example, an interval on the test hole log may be identified as a <br />silty sand (SM) while one sample taken within the interval may have <br />individually been identified as a sandy silt (ML).
