USDA Soil Unit 82- Otero sandy loam, 1 to 9 percent slopes. This deep, somewhat <br />• excessively drained soil is on uplands with dunelike relief. It formed in eolian sand. The <br />native vegetation is mainly grass. Elevation is 5,500 to 6,300 feet. The average annual <br />precipitation is 11 to 15 inches, the average annual air temperature is 50 to 54 degrees F, <br />and the average frost-free period is 135 to 165 days. <br />Typically, the surface layer is light brownish gray sandy loam about 7 inches thick. The <br />substratum to a depth of 60 inches or more is sandy loam. The soil is mildly alkaline to a <br />depth of 7 inches and moderately alkaline below that depth, <br />USDA Soil Unit 68- Razor clay loam,1 to 12 percent slopes. This moderately deep, III <br />drained soil is on hilts and uplands. It formed in residuum and colluvium derived dominantly <br />from shale. The native vegetation is mainly grass. Elevation is 5,500 to 6,600 feet. The <br />average annual precipitation. is 12 to 15 inches, the average annual air temperature is 49 <br />to 54 degrees F, and the average frost-free period is 125 to 160 days. <br />Typically, the surface layer is yellowish brown clay loam about 3 inches thick. The subsoil <br />is mainly clay about 20 inches thick. The substratum is silty clay loam 9 inches thick. Soft <br />shale is at a depth of 32 inches. The soil is moderately alkaline throughout. <br />USDA Soil Unit 88 -Vona fine sandy loam, 1 to 5 percent slopes. This deep, well <br />drained soil is on undulating uplands. It formed in eolian sand. The native vegetation is <br />mainly grass. Elevation is 5,500 to 6,200 feet. The average annual precipitation is 12 to 15 <br />inches, the average annual air temperature is 50 to 54 degrees F, and the average frost- <br />free period is 130 to 160 days. <br />Typically, the surface layer is light brownish gray fine sandy loam about 6 inches thick. The <br />subsoil is sandy loam about 26 inches thick. The substratum to a depth of 60 inches or <br />more is sandy foam. The soil is neutral to a depth of 17 inches and moderately alkaline <br />below that depth. <br />Included in this unit is about 10 percent Olney sandy loam in drainways. <br />(ii) The stratum beneath the deposit is presumed to be sandstone, shale, or conglomorate <br />or a combination thereof, <br />(g) The primary commodities to be mined/extracted are sand and gravel to be used for <br />construction, eg. Sand and Gravel, Landscaping "Rock", Road Base, Borrow Materials for <br />construction, Concrete and Asphalt Sizes ASTM C-33 specification material used with <br />Portland cement and Asphalt cement. Topsoil and other construction material which is <br />suitable for beneficial use. <br />(h) This site has no other type soil as a secondary commodity that are of commercial value <br />at the present time. Therefore, no other materials will be a produced, mined or sold at this <br />time. <br />(i) No explosives will be used in conjunction with mining. Explosives should not be needed <br />at any time to remove the materials, therefore a Geotechnical Stability Exhibit will not be <br />needed for this permit application. <br />~~ <br />
