• the regraded spoil surface. Where acid spoil (pH less than 5 and ABPless
than 5) is encountered at the regraded spoil surface, a selectively
handled suitable spoil topdressing or lime application will be required.
The elevated nitrate concentrations that occur in samples from the 1981
cores (2034E, 2613E, 2614E) are apparently nonrepresentative. These cores
were very wet when sampled and were not dried before shipment to the
laboratory. Also, contamination from drilling additives may have occurred
during drilling. Therefore, the nitrate concentrations may be atypically
high due to sampling error.
No revegetation or ground water contamination problems are anticipated
from nitrate. The mean spoil nitrate value in the Wadge reclamation area
during 1986 and 1988 was 1.4 ppm (with a standard deviation of 0.9 ppin)
which is an order of magnitude below the ground water contamination level
of 60 ppm and actually approaches the plant deficiency level of 2 ppm.
Bath the premine ground water monitoring data (WA-0043 and WA-0044) and
the postmine spring (BP-0001) and pond data (DA-0004) indicate that N03-N
values are suitable (less than 10 mg/1) in the vicinity of Sites 2034E,
2613E, and 2614E (see Exhibit 7-2, Hydrology Monitoring Site Location
Map). Postmine spoil water quality will continue to be monitored for
N03-N at Sites BP-0001 and DA-0004. The data shall be presented in the
annual Hydrology Monitoring Report.

6-153a Revisea 08/17/90
