3.9 Molybdenum
Mean total molybdenum content in soil averages between 2 and 5
ppm (CSMRI, 1977). In plants, molybdenum serves as a catalyst
in enzyme reactions. Molybdenum levels in the overburden range
from 0.6 to 1.3 ppm, while in the underburden, values range
from 0.6 to 1.8 ppm. Concentrations are generally 0.6 ppm in
the overburden and 0.6 to 1.0 ppm in the underburden. No
reclamation problems are anticipated from molybdenum
concentrations in this range.
